OKLAHOMA  SEEDED 5TH AT NATIONALS

SOONERS TO PLAY KENT STATE IN FIRST ROUND

The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (25-7-2) found out today that it will be going to the ACHA Men's Division 1 National Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.  The Sooners are seeded 5th in the tournament and will face 12th seed Kent State University (20-14-1) at 7:30 P.M. on Saturday, March 14th.   

The 2009 ACHA Men's Division 1 National Tournament will be hosted by John Carroll University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and will take place March 14-18, 2009 at the Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, OH. 

The ACHA released its 10th Coaches Ranking of the season earlier today and, along with certain autobids for league champions, it determined the Nationals lineup.  Without further ado, the sixteen teams going to the ACHA D1 National Championship Tournament are: 

1 - Lindenwood (CSCHL Auto-Bid)

2 - Penn State

3 - Delaware

4 - Illinois

5 - OKLAHOMA

6 - Iowa State

7 - Rhode Island

8 - Robert Morris (PA)

9 - Liberty

10 - Ohio

11 - West Chester (ECHA Auto-Bid)

12 - Central Oklahoma

13 - Kent State

14 - Stony Brook

15 - Duquesne (CHMA Auto-Bid)

16 - Penn State Berks (NECHL Auto-Bid)

But wait, that's not the Nationals seeding!  Per the ACHA Policies and Procedures Manual:

E.         Division 1 Tournament Seeding  - Tournament seeding for the 16 team format shall be determined by a vote of the top 18 teams ranked in the most current national rankings at the completion of ranking #9.  The Division 1 Commissioner shall poll each of the eighteen teams to determine seeding.

So the Official Seedings for the 2009 ACHA D1 Nationals are as follows:

5. Oklahoma
6. Iowa State
7. Rhode Island
8. Liberty
9. Robert Morris (PA)
10. Ohio
11. West Chester
12. Kent State
13. Central Oklahoma

16. Penn State Berks

Compared to their placement in Ranking #10, Seeds #8 and #9 changed as did Seeds #12 and #13.
