| Tornado take 5 points from Ice Dogs Ice Dogs 2 - Texas 5 February 6 - Frisco, Texas --- Texas stood up to a tough Fairbanks again tonight and finished the three game series with a overtime loss for one point and two wins for five big points and some momentum going into Fairbanks next week. Texas played very well tonight offensively (46 shots) and stronger on defensively. Dan Sullivan had to be sharp and he was stopping 21 of 23. Only one goal in the first period and that Texas from David Rigatti (Adams, Taurence). Fairbanks came beck in the second with two goals - one a powerplay - before Nick Taurence's goal (Rostenkowski, Freibergs) tied it up at 2-2. Today was also Tyler's 17th birthday - a goal on your birthday, now isn't that cool? Scott Deur's goal (Ware, Howard) came early in the third and proved to be the game winner on a powerplay. Both teams played a very tight game before Fairbanks pulled their goalie for an extra attacker to try and tie the the game but it backfired and Nick Taurence barried it in the empty net for his second goal of the night assisted by Prince and Freibergs. With the IceDog's goalie back in the net, Axel Boyer scored his third goal of the year off Underhill and Einersen. Texas needed these wins to build confidence they are a playoff caliber team. They did that despite the distractions that come with the trade deadline and roster freeze. The results of the final roster for next week is still sort of cloudy as to who will be here next weekend. We know for sure that John Kelly and AJ Mueller are gone. AJ is in transit to his new team in Alpena. Also gone today are Shay Cizmar and Kevin McLean - no word on where they might end up. There is possibilities one or two new players might make Mondays freeze. All teams in the NAHL are facing these tough times right now but the players who survive will be able to settle down and concentrate on hockey again by next weekend. Then, the race is on for the playoff positions! Texas winning tonight and Springfield losing has put us in third place in the South by one point but we have also played two fewer games. Notes: Jack Prince, James Howard and Scott Deur continue to lead the Tornado in points. Tornado are on a three game winning streak Total SOG: Texas 46 FB 23 Powerplays: Texas 1-6 FB 1-5 Stars of the Game: 1) Nick Taurence 2) Ralfs Freibergs 3) David Rigatti |
