| Texas' last regular season game - Tornado Drop 5th Straight to Bandits 5-2 -- March 27 - Chesterfield, MO --- The final game of the regular season followed the same pattern as their previous games and another big period by St Louis sunk the Tornado. In four of their five straight games against the Bandits, the Tornado allowed periods of 4, 3, 5, and 4 goals. Tonight it was the second period when the Bandits put four points on the board, two of them of the power play variety. In the first period Dan Sullivan turned aside nine of the ten shots he faced to keep the Tornado close. The second period started with a bang as Mike Fleming and Lordo dropped the gloves right off the opening faceoff. Things went down hill quickly from there for the Tornado as they started a march to the penalty box. The Tornado finally broke through with a power play goal of their own at 7:24 when Shane Sooth fired a shot that was blocked by one of the Bandits defensemen. Jack Prince grabbed the deflection and slid it across to the far side and Rock Einersen put a wrister past Groh. The third period was much more even with the Tornado registering the only scoring of the period on a power play by David Rigatti at 15:55. The Tornado will open their first round playoff series next week in St Louis. If the Tornado want to have a chance of breaking through against the Bandits they will have to avoid the big period and hope for a few bounces going their way. --- Photography by Ryan Casey |
